Notebook Information Evening

Each year IT Services holds a Notebook Information Evening to inform our parents about the School Notebook Program a notebook computer is a compulsory requirement for each student in Years 5 - 12. Parents with children whose current notebook will be out of warranty in January will receive a letter inviting them to attend the evening. The Ridgeway Campus Information Evening will take place on:

Tuesday 17 November 7.30 pm

in the Innovation Centre, Buckley House

This year we are again pleased to be offering a Tablet PC for our Secondary Students as our preferred notebook model, loaded with Microsoft Windows 7. We will explain the benefits of the service and insurance bundled with the notebooks. We also explain the requirements for parents who might want to purchase outside the School Notebook Program.

I look forward to seeing you there.

05. Sport

Girls' Sport

Round 1 of summer sports started on Saturday with 28 teams heading out to compete in Badminton, Tennis, Softball and Volleyball.  The girls enthusiastically participated, many playing a hard game in rather hot conditions.  We had teams going  as far as Assumption and Peninsula, and also some local games.  The scoreboard showed varied results.

Boys' Sport

After a week off for the Cup Weekend, Ivanhoe boys were again representing their school in AGSV competition.  So far the season has proven very difficult for our firsts teams and at the completion of three rounds of competition (including the bye) only the Squash team have achieved success.

09. From the Director of Co-Curricular Programs

The Ridgeway Campus Christmas Appeal

On Christmas Day last year, two of our current senior student volunteers helped at the lunch put on by the combined Richmond Churches for street people and the dispossessed. It was a personal effort but they quietly represented us all. Not everyone can make such a commitment but we can ALL contribute in a meaningful way.

12. Annual Appeal 2009

Would you like to help?

Over the next 2-3 years, our School community can anticipate the development of superior sporting facilities across all campuses. Through the current Capital Campaign, we are working hard to raise the funds towards the cost of $7 million worth of capital sporting works, including re-development of the North Ground on the Ivanhoe Campus and the development of a full-size AFL-cricket oval at Plenty Campus.

I wish to make my tax-deductible gift now to the Ivanhoe Campus - please click here.

02. From the Head of Campus

Exams and a New Initiative for Year 9

This week the Campus has seen Years 9-12 students involved with end of year examinations and Years 7-8 students completing their final assessment of the year prior to ECP.

Parents of Year 9 2010 also received communication about the exciting new initiative added to the program next year; the Year 9 2010 Thailand Trip.

Learning at Year 9

Research indicates that Year 9 students enjoy learning beyond the walls of a regular classroom.  They display a desire to engage deeply with and form opinions about topical issues, and they value opportunities to link school-based learning to the real world.

The School has responded to these needs by providing an experiential program that provides every Year 9 student with an opportunity to spend two weeks on the Urban Systems program learning how our city functions, two weeks at La Trobe University exploring new developments in science and research, and two further weeks on the After 9 program finding out about the world of work.

Transition and MiddleYears

It has been a busy month in Middle Years.  It seems like not long ago that we were welcoming the new Year 7s into the Middle Years and now they are preparing along with the Year 8s for their transition into the next Year Level.

The Year 9s are currently emmersed in examinations and are looking forward to moving into the Senior Years, where they will commence their studies of VCE and preparatory IB studies in global perspectives.

Hats Policy

In Terms 1 and 4 it is expected that all students are “Sun Smart”. This involves appropriate wearing of hats and the use of sunscreen.  To support the wearing of hats the following guidelines have been introduced.

This project is a joint venture with Plan Cambodia and Ivanhoe Grammar and has been running each year since 2004.
